22 April 2026

World IP Day 2026 is 26 April 2026, and we are delighted to join with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to celebrate IP and sports.

We have already had the 2026 Winter Olympics. And the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in June/July, when Intellectual Property will play an integral part in the glorious game.

From Trade Marks (which provide merchandising opportunities), to Copyright in  broadcasts and digital media rights, to Registered Designs for the mascots.

And of course, in a sector powered by improvement and innovation, it is important that Patents come into play. From Video Assistant Referee (VAR) equipment, through light-weight lace-less boots, to in-built football sensors detecting speed, spin and flight, Patents protect valuable technological developments.

Whether you intend following this year’s World Cup, the chances are high that you will be impacted by IP in sport. Families and friends will want to re-watch the highlights and get the latest sports equipment and official team kits.  And even the trainers in your shoe cupboard might look different to how they did before.

If you want to discuss any of your IP requirements with us, then please contact us at: mail@MorelandIP.com or via www.MorelandIP.com
